2010

Volunteers are currently installing a 3,000 square foot Rain Garden in the center of the Village.  The rain water run off from the building roofs, the parking lot and two roads will be diverted into the garden instead of drains and ditches. The goal is to divert surface water into the ground and away from streams and ditches. The garden will consist of a 300 foot long depression planted with trees and plants known for their ability to absorb water. This is another of the Villages "green" projects which people may inspect to determine what type of plants and configuration they may use for their own homes and businesses.

The garden has been designed by Ken Cochran, Kevin Power, Dan Herms and Harbae Yang of the OARDC.  Supervising volunteers during installation has been Rebecca Little, City Planner for the City of Wooster.  Assisting with excavation has been Hofstetter Excavating. Information concerning construction and the type of plants used will be available in the Welcome Center when it is completed.
