The Board of Trustees have committed to finishing the Blacksmith Shop this year in time for the Sonnenberg Homecoming. Volunteers have already begun the work to make the shop operational, including operation of the forge, by August 10th.
Walter Mullet has been leading a group of experienced blacksmiths to repair the machinery and forge and install a flue so that we may begin operations for the first time since 1965. Volunteer electricians, under the direction of Gravity Mechanicals have begun installation of an electrical system for lighting and also to power the line shaft which will power most of the mechanical equipment.
Volunteers are presently cleaning out material that does not belong in the shop and slowly cleaning the rust off of tools and equipment and testing motors and equipment as they go. Watch for further news of their progress.
