Research Material

Over the decades, the Kidron-Sonnenberg Heritage Center has assembled an impressive collection of research materials. These include books- large and small, newsletters, maps, and notebooks covering various aspects of life in Kidron, including everything from baseball teams to the fire department, to one room school houses. You will also find a wealth of information about the history of the Amish and Mennonites. All this is still without mention of the genealogy databases and thousands of volumes in the Roger N. Geiser Family History Library.

Many items in our collection are rare, custom-created or too expensive to own privately. We welcome visitors to take advantage of our research material; they tell the story of our community. It is a story worth remembering, sharing and preserving.

There are also some family history books available for purchase in our gift shop. A list of those items may be found on the gift store order form.

The Kidron Community Historical Society/Heritage Center houses a computer-based genealogy database that now contains over 680,000 names. We are also connected to 57 databases which make up the Swiss Anabaptist Genealogical Association (SAGA). The SAGA database contains over 5.93 million records. Visit the SAGA website for information on how to become a member. Access Anyone is welcome to stop in the Heritage Center during regular business hours. While there, you may access our genealogy database or the SAGA database at no charge. One of our volunteers will be glad to assist you. The research library is available on Saturdays from 11 AM to 3 PM, April through October.

We will respond to written and email inquiries addressed to Kidron Community Historical Society, P.O. Box 234, Kidron OH 44636, or kidronheritagecenter@gmail.com. Of course, the time we can spend on such requests is limited, but we can perhaps help you get started with your own study.

Thank you for your interest in our Swiss Mennonite and Amish heritage.
